Run-D.M.C.’s second album, King of Rock, featured a song by the same title that was heavily rock-influenced with heavy guitar riffs, a place that Run-D.M.C. would later visit with their Aerosmith cover for ‘Walk This Way.’
This kind of mash-up of genres has effectively bridged musical interests of their core demographic. It also sparks new breeds of music and influences other bands to think outside their genre. I feel that the Beastie Boys, and eventually Linkin Park, are excellent examples of bands that fill the new niche that Run-D.M.C. has helped create.
I absolutely love whenever two groups of musicians can get together, despite their opposite musical style, and make amazing corroborations that fuse different genre’s elements into one.
I found this mash-up a good 6 or so years ago and fell in love with it. At first, I thought that someone just took the two songs and mashed them together. I had no idea that it was actually a professionally done collaboration between Korn and Dem Franchize Boyz. Since I think that this is an overall amazing mix, I have to give major props to whoever thought of this idea. The two songs were released in 2006, which has me suspect that whenever both of them were still in their infant stages of being created, the idea of a collaboration was sparked.
